So here we are at the end of summer again.
Yes, my friend, it's true! And if you're like me, the past few months were filled with fun, spontaneity, adventure, celebrations, vacations, and maybe some significant loosening up of the reins of your Thrive Formula.
Let me take a wild stab at it. Over the summer, you found yourself:
- Staying up late
- Drinking excess alcohol
- Eating extra processed, sugary, fried, and/or junky foods
- Falling out of your awesome morning routine (meditation, journaling, yoga, etc.)
- Spending extra money
- Defaulting to old habits
Hey, no judgement here! I'm in the same boat.
Because being optimally healthy is about SO MUCH MORE than having the perfect diet, the perfectly-executed day, or the perfect anything! I think at some level we know that perfection isn't possible, but yet so many of us are still striving for it.
Aside from being impossible, perfect is boring!
We need to give ourselves permission to veer off the rails a little sometimes. Otherwise, life becomes too rigid, too predictable, too flat. And we need contrast to remind us of what we really want and what is truly important to us.
So if it's not about perfection, then what is it about?
The important piece that I believe we must learn is having systems in place to get right back on track after a temporary pivot. Because without a reliable system, that temporary pivot can turn into an unhealthy lifestyle, which definitely does not work for long-term thriving.
The secret to long-term optimal health is to discover and implement:
1. Your unique Thrive Formula (which includes nutrition, sleep, passions, hobbies, relationships, mindsets, self-love, career, finances, spirituality, etc.)
2. Your system for living in that formula at least 80% of the time. That's the 80/20 rule, which allows for 80% of the time being on track with your Thrive Formula...while also allowing 20% to play outside the lines.
That sounds too easy, right?
Well, a thriving body and life doesn't have to be complicated, restrictive, or rigid. And this is what I have come to learn and implement in my own life. And I gotta say, creating a healthy body, mind, and life is way more fun and easier than you may think!
